I love your blog! I came across it tonight and have read 32 pages so far! I can't stop!
Just a question, you seem to take reference to how you wrote all these articles? Why did you write them?
Good job & keep it up, you are doing great :)
And.. did you take or are you taking like nutrition or anything in university?
aww thanks so much, kat! it feels good to hear that :)
oh, i was a writer for my high school’s newspaper during my freshman year. we got to choose what we wanted to write our articles on, and i’d always choose something regarding health/nutrition/fitness.
the ones about the different systems in the body were extra credit articles i wrote for my PE class. with all these articles already made, i guess creating a health blog has always been in my future haha.
well i’m thinking about taking nutritional science as an undergrad but… i’ve still got my senior year of high school to go! haha.
for snacks, eating pitas with hummus, sliced apples with peanut butter, and whole fruits are delicious choices that require no prep.
i definitely use fruits as fillers for when i’m hungry/craving. for example, just now, i was eating some beef with broccoli and was gonna go for a second plate. instead, i grabbed a banana, and here i am! eating a banana and answering your question haha.
on that note, i can catch myself craving cookies/candy throughout the afternoon; just remember: it’s just as easy to grab an apple/orange/strawberries. making fruit smoothies (without using sugar!) can also help with weight loss, since they’re super filling!
here are some tips to go by when cooking:
choose whole-grain versions of pasta and bread
substitute whole-wheat flour for bleached white flour when you bake
bake, don’t fry
try to avoid soy sauce as much as possible— if you can’t, look for the low-sodium kind
good luck! :)
ps. drink lotsss of water. if you’re hungry, try drinking water first, as thirst is often mistaken for hunger.
pps. don’t forget to exercise too. diet’s more important when it comes to weight loss, but it’s always good to burn more calories, increase your overall fitness, and tone up!
so...what inspired you to start a health tumblr?
btw, i do love the facts you post. i am quite surprised because i didn't know a good chunk of them.
haha it was definitely never planned. i’ve had a personal tumblr for a while now, but i was never that into it. i guess i created this health tumblr simply because i wanted to share some of the things that i’ve learned over the years through my reading + researching random stuff.
i figure that the majority of people want to change their appearance (lose weight, gain weight, gain muscle, etc.), but many don’t try to understand the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of things. regardless, i love it when people work to become healthier and just wanted to provide helpful tips.
hey i love your blog! i think it is very helpful! i also love staying healthy and would love to stay informed about my nutrition and some health tips :) i promoted you to my 7,000 followers so i hope it helps you! you are an amazing person for doing this! good luck :)
thanks! and wow, thank you for promoting me— it really means a lot, and i appreciate it so much!
and noo, you’re the amazing one. helping me, a complete stranger, without even being asked. i can tell you’re a genuinely sweet person, brooke. :)
i know a lot of people get bored with the monotony of working out; however, there’s so much that you can do. i’m gonna start posting my own logs to give others new ideas, while also keeping track of what i’m doing. :)
20-minute kickbox workout
10-minute “AM standing abs”
12-minute “bellydance basics”
thanks to my tv’s free ondemand for that— i’m in love with ExerciseTV now haha.
but seriously, my oblique abs have never been used that much. with the kickboxing, i turned my body soo much with all the cross-overs… then the ab sesh killed my abs even more.
i didn’t think the bellydance basics was gonna do much, but on top of the other two workouts i did + all the hip movement, i could really feel it in my core. it was really fun too! wellll, i know my abs are gonna hurt tomorrow.
